Here's A Snippet of What You'll learn

RADM Joyce Johnson and Jim Calderwood are pleased to be on the program again this year. They will lead an interactive session on topical medico-legal problems of the day. They will discuss these in the context of the court (state and federal), congressional and general media contexts. Dr. Johnson will provide a medical perspective while Mr. Calderwood will address these topical issues from a legal perspective.

Common Legal Problems in Medical Practice
Gun violence is an epidemic in the United States which becomes politicised whenever discussed. There are simple ways to decrease US deaths if this epidemic was considered a public health issue rather than a political one. This lecture will overview the issues and make recommendations based on a public health view.

The emerging field of orthobiologics, often referred to as regenerative sports medicine, provides cutting edge treatments for musculoskeletal pain. While steroid injections accelerate osteoarthritis and result in poor long term outcomes for tendinopathies, newer treatments such as PRP (platelet rich plasma) provide a promising alternative. This lecture provides a rundown about the limits of steroid injections, an overview about the orthobiologic treatments that are available, basics about what is required to do PRP treatments well, as well as which orthobiologic treatments should be avoided at this time.
